Chris Weidman Breaks Leg During UFC 261 Card

An eagerly awaited UFC card headlined by Kamaru Usman's second-round knockout of Jorge Masridal was overshadowed by gruesome injuries sustained by combatants throughout the undercard in Jacksonville, Florida. Chris Weidman's bout against Uriah Hall ended after just 17 seconds after Weidman's right leg gave broke while delivering a kick. Fans and announcers were aghast at slow motion replays that show the skin broken before the leg completely buckled seconds later. Hall was declared the winner without attempting a single blow. The injury occurs eight years after Anderson Silva broke his leg in a bout against Weidman.

In the preceding match, Jim Crute suffered a torn knee ligament in his loss against Anthony Smith. Earlier, Justyn James suffered a gruesome injury at the hands of Devonte Smith. A doctor stepped in to stop the fight in the second round after James eye swelled shut. Usman dominated his title fight against Masvidal that ended with a devastating right hand. Masvidal dropped 20 pounds in recent days just to make weight. The first full-capacity in Florida since the pandemic began featured a star-studded audience. Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Antonio Brown and Jake Paul were among the 15,000-plus in attendance.
