Katie Emmer Will Not Return To Flyers Telecasts

Crushing news for Delaware Valley hockey fans as Katie Emmer announces on social media that she will no longer appear on Flyers coverage for NBC Sports Philadelphia. The regional network has cut staff in recent weeks due to the COVID landscape. Longtime Flyers player and reporter Chris Therien was likewise laid off in December. Others departing the network in recent weeks include Phillies contributor Gregg Murphy and Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn. Emmer won the Jim Nantz Award as the nation's most outstanding collegiate sportscaster in 2018 while attending St. Cloud State University. In the past year she has been involved in two analytics-type Flyers shows for the network. Other recent credits include a stint with Fox Sports North and as an on-ice reporter for University of Minnesota telecasts. A one-time collegiate basketball player at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo, Emmer recently covered the Madden 21 video game championship series. As with many industries, the pandemic has derailed the careers of many aspiring media talents. Expect Emmer to land on her feet professionally in short order.
