The St. Cloud Rox continue to roll, winning for 14th time in their last 16 games with a shutout win on Military Appreciation Night. The team improved to 25-12 overall and a magnificent 17-2 at Joe Faber Field with three games remaining in the 2020 Northwoods League season. There will be no league-wide playoffs this season.
The squad’s starting pitching continues to be marvelous — led by Washington State’s Zane Mills on Sunday (eight scoreless innings, two hits, no walks and 10 strikeouts) and Minot State’s R.J. Martinez (seven scoreless innings, five hits and 10 strikeouts) Monday evening. St Cloud beat Mankato by scores of 9-1 and 10-0.
Mills won Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night honors for a second time and finishes his campaign unbeaten with a sparkling 0.58 ERA. Martinez, a 2019 All Star, ends the year 3-0 with a 1.99 ERA.
The Rox move on to Rochester Tuesday and Wednesday to face the last place Honkers (7-28), before returning home to close out the season against Willmar. The Stingers, once 13-2, are now 19-21, St. Cloud has beaten them seven straight times
Waterloo won yet again Monday but fell percentage points behind of St. Cloud with three extra games played. The 27-13 Bucks are off until their Thursday finale against Mankato in Iowa.
